Morgan Hill Aquatic Center |
The 8.5 acre Morgan Hill Aquatic Center is a major new recreation facility for the city of Morgan Hill. Including a pool house, equipment building, 50-meter competition pool, 6-lane lap pool, activity pool and surrounding grounds, this municipal swim center exemplifies sound sustainable design principles. It is the first outdoor aquatic facility in California to receive LEED certification and has recently won a Savings by Design Energy Efficiency Integration Award.
Recreation Management Magazine cites "the sensitivity to environmental aspects of the project (as) a model of what today's projects should aspire to."
Opened in 2005, the aquatic center's innovative energy-saving features including: high efficiency light sources, daylight harvesting, occupancy sensor lighting controls, and astronomic time clock lighting controls, have proven to reduce maintenance costs and to minimize energy consumption. In 2007, IDeAs is upgrading the swim center with the latest green energy technology. Variable Frequency Drives, Photovoltaics, Solar Hot Water, Cogeneration and a Wind Turbine are all being considered.
