The Bay School of San Francisco
Founded in 2004, the Bay School is a new 62,000 square foot independent high school in The Presidio of San Francisco, offering a unique blend of science, technology, ethics and world religions and their interrelationships.

Originally built in 1912 as an army barracks for the Fourth Army, the school houses the office where the infamous order to incarcerate Japanese Americans into “relocation camps” was signed during World War II. The building has undergone a complete makeover, keeping the old and introducing new equipment exposed in a sympathetic and low key manner.

Sustainable features include:
  • natural ventilation with no air conditioning,
  • energy efficient lighting,
  • occupancy sensor based lighting controls,
  • wireless data, security and clock systems to reduce the use of PVC wiring in the building.
